Services for Mrs. Charles E. Witt, 83, who died in the Oelwein hospital, Monday, Sept 02, were held in the Schultz funeral home in Monona Sept. 04, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Interment was in the City cemetery.
Cora Mae, daughter of James and Libbie Mulholland Matthews, was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, Oct. 10, 1873. She was educated in the Clayton county schools. On March 17, 1893, she was married to Charles E. Witt at Monona. She was active in community life and became a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1955.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 15, 1929; a son Frederick, who died in infancy, and a half-brother, Glenn, in World War II. Surviving are a daughter, Ethel, Cedar Rapids; a son, Donald C., DeKalb, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. L. C. (Dora) Lehman, Elgin; a brother, Bert Matthews, Hammond, Ind.; two half-brothers, James Matthews, Farmersburg, and Leigh Matthews, Cedar Rapids; two half-sisters, Mrs. Louis (Ruth) Radloff, and Mrs. William (Gladys) Reardon, Farmersburg; many more distant relatives, and a great number of friends.
