John Henry Buckman, son of John Frederick and Fredericka (Oetting) Buckman, was born Mar. 04, 1869, in Farmersburg township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 26 days.

On Dec. 27, 1922, he was married to Lois Brownson at the St. John Lutheran church at Dubuque by the Rev. Samuel Salzman.

Mr. Buckman chose farming as his vocation and helped Allen Bros. with threshing.

He was an active member of the St. John Lutheran church at Farmersburg; he served as president of the Farmersburg Savings bank for 19 years; as a director of the bank for 40 years; as secretary-treasurer of the Farmersburg-Wagner Telephone company several years; as president and director of the Clayton County Agriculture society; as secretary and treasurer of the National school district for many years.

In 1924 Mr. Buckman moved to Farmersburg where he lived until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and William; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Palas and Mahelia Buckman.

He is survived by his wife.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 03, 1957, at 2 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran church at Farmersburg, with the Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.

Pallbearers were Henry Matt, Herbert Deal, Howard Muller, Marvin Klinkenberg, Hale Corlett, Charles Schmidt, James Probert, and Fritze Mueller. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Matt Sr., Theodore Matt, Carroll Oelke, Walter Blazek, Kenneth Fuelling, James Mathews, and Grover Miller.
