Clayton County Register, 06 June 1957.
VOLGA: The death of M. J. Conboy, 87, occurred Friday, May 24, 1957, at 9:20 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. H. Humbert, following a four weeks' illness.
Born Feb. 01, 1870, in Highland township, Clayton county, Iowa, Michael Joseph Conboy was the son of Thomas and Ann Curley Conboy. He attended the rural schools and learned the carpenter trade when a young man. He helped construct many buildings in the county and in western Iowa and Minnesota during pioneer days.
Following his marriage to Miss Anna Glennon on April 30, 1901, he farmed for more than 20 years and was a noted breeder of Duroc Jersey swine and purebred draft horses.
Mr. Conboy served 22 years as director of the Volga creamery and many years as a director on the school board. He served as trustee of Sacred Heart Catholic church for many years and in 1924-25 was building contractor for the present church, when it was constructed.
Mrs. Conboy preceded him in January, 1924.
In 1933, he was married to Mary E. Rinkert. Since her death in 1949, he had made his home with his daughter, where he was cared for during his last sickness. Grief over the sudden death of his brother, Tom Conboy, last October is thought to have hastened his illness and death.
Besides his daughter, he is survived by a son, Wm. L. Conboy, Volga, three grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Dorgan (Rita Krieg), Waterloo, Bill and Ann Conboy, Volga; one great-grandchild, Kathleen Dorgan; two brothers, John, Volga, and Frank, Clinton; two sisters, Miss Anna Conboy, Fayette, and Mrs. Tom Doyle, St. Paul, Minn., and other relatives.
A daughter, Marie; and a son, Earl, preceded him in addition to his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Services were held Monday, May 27, at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart church with the Rev. Karl J. Klein, pastor, celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. The Rev. John J. Roskopf of Fayette was present in the sanctuary. Father Klein also officiated at the graveside in Sacred Heart cemetery, where interment was made. Bearers were M. R. Hurley, Robert Garms, Lee Klingman, W. W. Wenger, Harry Shea and P. W. Minihan.
