Funeral services were held at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, Garnavillo, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 11, 1957, for John Christopher Bierbaum, who died May 08 at Finley hospital in Dubuque.

Mr. Bierbaum, son of Gerhard and Caroline Walke Bierbaum, was born Aug. 20, 1871, on a farm near Ceres, in Garnavillo township, Clayton county, Iowa.

He was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Lutheran church at Guttenberg and in 1920 transferred his membership to the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church in Garnavillo. He was an active and faithful member and served as a member of the church council.

On Oct. 12, 1909, Mr. Bierbaum and Miss Anna Maria Obermoeller were married at the bride's home by the Rev. F. Besel.

Until the time he retired in 1920, and moved to Garnavillo, he lived and worked on the farm on which he was born.

Mr. Bierbaum was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, four children, Mrs. G. A. Wittenberg of Mason City, Alvin Bierbaum Sr. of Garnavillo, Mrs. Arthur Anderegg of Guttenberg, and Hubert Bierbaum of Estherville; one sister, Mrs. Herman Bonker, Manley; four grandsons, five granddaughters; one great-grandson, two great-granddaughters; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The Rev. L. C. Urlaub officiated at the services and burial was in the new Garnavillo cemetery.
