Mrs. Lena Anna (Scheer) Bente died at her home in Elkader, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, three months and 28 days, on March 12, 1957.
Mrs. Bente, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Nehser) Scheer, was born Nov. 14, 1882, in Littleport, Iowa.
She was a faithful and devoted member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, and also a long time active member of the Women's Guild. She served as vice-president of that organization, (then known as the Frauen-Verein) from 1930-1932.
She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the East Side cemetery association, and held several offices in these organizations. She took part in many other civic and social activities during her life time.
On August 01, 1900, she was united in marriage to Frank H. Bente at Motor, Iowa, where the first home was established, and her two children were born. In 1908, she and her family moved to another farm two miles northeast of Elkader, where she lived until 1932, when she came to her present home in Elkader.
In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Bente were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband, Frank Bente, and two children, Florence M. (Mrs. Merritt T. Hamilton) and Ralph E. Bente, also one sister, Mrs. Mary Bente, all of Elkader. Her parents and one brother, George, preceded her in death. Other survivors are her three grandchildren, Anne (Mrs. Neal Perry), of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Thomas J. Hamilton of Independence, Iowa, and Marilyn Hamilton of Elkader. Also two great-grandchildren, Mar___ and Paul Perry.
Besides the afore named survivors are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday March 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
Pallbearers were: Edward Leonard, Fred Eggimann, George Kuehl, Anton Johnson, Herman Fascher and Ernie Seifert.
Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Neal Perry, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Hamilton, and Mr. and Mrs. James Hamilton, Independence; Mrs. Louis Bente and Milred, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Art Jensen, Osage; Irving Bente, Dumont; Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Wilke, Fayette; Mrs. Edward Meese, Mrs. Minnie Greve and Mrs. Earl Pust, Littleport.
