Funeral services for Fred Amandus Kurth were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19, at 1:45 o'clock from the Schultz funeral home to St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. R. H. Steege officiating. Burial was at the city cemetery at Monona.
Mr. Kurth died Tuesday evening, Jan. 15, at 8:30 o'clock at the Mason City hospital, where he was taken earlier that evening following a stroke at his home.
He was born Aug. 07, 1888, the son of Fred and Louise Blume Kurth, in Wagner township. He had reached the age of 68 years, 5 months and 8 days.
He was baptized Sept. 23, 1888, in the St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg and was confirmed there on Mar. 31, 1901, by Rev. Brown.
He was married to Alma Henkes on Oct. 27, 1909. To this union two children were born, Eldon and Irene.
In 1915 Mrs. Kurth died. On Dec. 20, 1916, he was married to Cora Henkes. To this union two sons were born, Dale and Virgil. She died in 1941. During this time Mr. Kurth lived on a farm in Wagner township near Gunder.
In 1945 he was married to Mrs. Lottie Russell and moved to Mason City, where he was employed by the DeBois farm store until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ella, Mrs. Wm. Englehardt, and Hulda, Mrs. George Suddendorf; two brothers, Harvey and Lester.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children: Eldon of Postville; Irene of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Dale and Virgil of Farmersburg; and two step-sons, Lloyd Russell of Mason City, and Glenn Russell of San Diego, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hedwig, Mrs. Louis Fuelling of Farmersburg, and Alma, Mrs. Charles Schmidt, of Farmersburg; two brothers, Ed of Farmersburg, and Elmer of Monona, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Music at the service was provided by the St. John choir. Mrs. R. H. Steege was the organist.
Pallbearers were Joe Walter, Glenn Walter, Clifford Walter, John Sass, George Kluth and Elmer Radloff.
