Clayton County Register, 22 October 1941.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Witt Funeral chapel for Mrs. Emma Bishop. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery with the Rev. George M. Richter, pastor of the Congregational church officiating.

Casket-bearers were H. M. Wolf, George Taake, Henry Reimer, George Katschkowsky, Chas. Schoepf and H. F. Oelberg.

Emma Kern Bishop was born in Fayette county, Iowa, January 13, 1864, and died at her home here in Elkader, October 18th, where for 54 years she has resided.

She was married in Elgin, Iowa, on June 15th, 1882 to Hiram C. Bishop, who preceded her in death in 1921.

Three sons and two daughters were born to this union. Two sons - Arthur and Clinton and an infant daughter - have also preceded her in death. Surviving her are her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Lucke of Harve, Mont., and her son, Max B. of Elkader. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive as does one sister, Mrs. Maggie Schricker, of Elgin.

After the death of her son Clinton, and his wife, Mrs. Bishop, for nine years, mothered and made a home for three of their children - Clinton, Jr., Margaret and Lawrence.

Her life has been very full of home activities, always doing for others, having cared for many girls and boys during their high school years.

Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Universalist church here for many years, later uniting with the Congregational church and Ladies Guild, where she was an active worker until recent years.
