Jeffers, William Joseph 1875 - 1941

Wiliam Joseph Jeffers died on the 09th day of October 1941, at the age of 65 years. He was born December 13, 1875, at Neponset, Ill., the son of Richard Jeffers and Sarah Ann Pratt.

In 1877 the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa, where the deceased spent his youth. He graduated from the Red Oak schools. He left college to enlist in the Spanish-American war in Co. M. 51st Iowa Infantry and served his country on foreign soil with honor and distinction.

After his discharge from the Army he entered the State University of Iowa and graduated from the college of dentistry in 1902. The following year he became a member of the staff as Dental Demonstrator.

In June 1903 the deceased came to Elkader and established his dental practice. On November 06, 1907 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Barbara Schmidt, daughter of Blasius Schmidt and Caroline Hartman. Two daughters were born of this marriage.

His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death eight years.

The deceased left surviving him his two daughters, Elizabeth and Jean; a sister, Mrs. J. W. McBride; a brother, Tom W. Jeffers, and innumerable friends.

Dr. Jeffers Buried
With Military Honors

Funeral services, with Military Honors, were held for Dr. W. J. Jeffers, a Spanish War veteran, here last Saturday afternoon.

Regular services were conducted at the Oelke Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Paul Kitterer who also presided at the grave on the East Side cemetery before military services were conducted by Com. Clarence Moser of Strawberry Point. Leigh Mathews and W. E. Saur, buglers, sounded taps and a firing squad shot the salute

The military service was under the direction of Lemka-Stendel Post of the American Legion.
