On Monday morning (says the McGregor News) the dead body of a man was discovered lodged against the pile work, which forms the western approach to the pontoon at North McGregor.
A boat was sent out to recover it, and it was brought to shore. The body was that of a man apparently about 25 years of age with smooth shaven face, light hair, and although the body was badly decomposed, it was thought from the features to have been a Norwegian.
He was coarsely dressed, having on heavy woolen trowsers, three woolen shirts and a knitted blouse. There was nothing on his person by which he could be identified, and was probably a deck hand on some steamboat.
The body was buried on the island opposite the city.
