Clayton County Register, 03 Sept. 1941.

Mrs. Walter Everett

Mabel Thyer, daughter of Joseph and Mary Thyer, was born on November 28, 1881, at Glastonbury, England, where her early life was spent. In 1908 she embarked to America and for three years lived in New York City, with friends, until 1911, when she came to Volga, Iowa, to meet the man of her choice, Walter Everitt, a fellow countryman.

They were united in marriage Feb. 15, 1911, by the Rev. Samuel Bear, pastor of the Methodist church at Volga. They lived for two years on the Blair farm, then purchased their present place in 1913, where the son now resides.

On July 27, 1914, their only child, Stanley Everitt, was born. To those of us who have seen this worthy family progress from strangers in a strange land to substantial American citizens, it is with a feeling of pride and satisfaction that our land is a true democracy.

The church home also was soon established and with good citizenship, reveals life at its best. Mrs. Everitt was gifted with an earnest Christian character and that, with a pleasing personality, made her services much sought after. Her activities have always centered around her church, and she has served in nearly every capacity in church life. One cannot measure what her life has meant to her church, her family and to the community.

She died after a brief illness early Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 1941, at the age of 59 years, nine months and one day, leaving a devoted husband, one son, a grandson and a multitude of friends to miss her genial presence among us.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with a former pastor, the Rev. _. _. Starr of Miles, in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. D. V. Butler. Casketbearers were: Ernest Smith, William Hoskyn, Frank Oldfather, Arther ________, ____ ________ and William Chase.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, here.

Among those from out of town present at the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ebendorf, Woodrow, Col., Mrs. James Lewis and Winifred Lewis, Milwaukee, Wis., Rev. and Mrs. E. . Starr, Miles; Mr. and Mrs. Roy S. Crosier, Phyllis and Lester, Delhi; Mrs. John McCrea, Miss Gladwin, Mrs. C. Gitchell, Arlington; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Eder, Sigmund Otdoefer, Loyd Kaufman, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. James Bowles and George Bowles, Fayette; Mrs. F. Domke, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Jennings, Mrs. Ole Johnson and Ila Mae, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Moore, Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eckheart and family, Elkader.
