GARBER: Frederick Henry Horstman, Sr., who died at the Iowa City hospital at 10 a.m., Aug. 08, had reached the age of 66 years and seven days.
The son of Kasper and Anna Willman Hortman, Frederick was born in Hanover, Germany, on July 31, 1875. At the age of seven years he came to America with his parents. They resided in Garnavillo township in Clayton county. He received his education in Germany and Garnavillo township. He was confirmed on April 10, 1892 in Emmanuel Lutheran church at Elkport by the Rev. B. W. Fuchs.
October 07, 1903 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Mertens of Communia. To this union two children were born.
Mr. Horstman served this community as janitor of the Elkport public school for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Fredrick Henry, Jr., and Harold John, both of Elkport; one sister, Mrs. Clara Kuehl, also of Elkport; two grandchildren, Verlen Lyle and Frayne Dennis, also a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the church with the Rev. P. Kenyon officiating. Burial was in the Mount Harmony cemetery.
Pallbearers were: George Gifford, Arthur Jennings, Mark Rentschler, Wm. Costigan, Fred Schrader and Realto Berns.
