Funeral services for Henry Gibbs were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Vernon Benson, pastor of the Congregational church. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
As a son of Lott and Elizabeth Parker Gibbs, he was born at Sommersetshire, England, on Dec. 08, 1865, and died at his home after many weeks of illness. When seventeen years of age he came to America and settled near Earlville, where he met Henrietta Keys, a native of England, and they were married Sept. 03, 1890. The home was made on a farm near Manchester. Later they lived on farms in the vicinity of Strawberry Point. Eleven years ago they moved to town. They were the parents of six children. One daughter, Mabel, died in 1926. The golden wedding anniversary was celebrated with an open house last September. He was a member of Whitewood Camp, M.W.A. He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Minnie Ball, Bell, Calif.; Victor Gibbs, Ottumwa; Leonard Gibbs, Hopkinton; Rae Gibbs, and Mrs. Ben (Mae) Brockmeyer, Strawberry Point, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. there are also three sisters, Mrs. Charles Kronfeldt, Dubuque; Mrs. John Eigenberger and Mrs. Harry Ryan, Manchester.
