Mart J. Stence, who has been in failing health for some time, died at his farm home in this township this morning at 8:45.

He had reached the age of 58 years.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's church Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating.

Funeral services were held last Saturday morning, Aug. 09th, for Martin Stence in St. Joseph's church, here and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. P. Taken officiating.

Mr. Stence died Wednesday morning, Aug. 06th, at 8:45 a.m. from a heart ailment. He had been ill since March 13th.

Martin Stence, the son of John and Mary Stence, was born near Elkader on January 13, 1883 and at the time of his death had reached the age of 58 years, six months and 23 days.

The deceased was a prominent Holstein buyer and breeder and was the proprietor of the Sunny Slope dairy. His activity with the Holstein breed brought him recognition of a statewide nature.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters and these activities gave him a wide acquaintance in this and adjoining counties and the funeral last Saturday was one of the largest held in Elkader, as a result.

He is survived by one brother, Michael Stence of Garber, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary O'Brien, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Anna Wiley, Littleport; Mrs. Catherine Crary, St. Olaf, and Sister Marry Regis of Mt. Loretta, Dubuque.

His parents, one brother - Ray, and three sisters - Marguerite, Stella and Ella - preceded him in death.

Casket bearers were Vincent Stence, Frank O'Brien, George O'Brien, John Wiley, Jr., John Stence and Francis Stence; honorary bearers were Gerald Stence, Edward Crary and Edward O'Brien, all nephews. Mass bearers were Francis Dunn, James Stence and Leo Frommelt.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services included Mrs. Ella Glennon, Rochester, Minn., Dennis O'Leary, Hopkins, Minn., Joe Schelly, Minneapolis, Minn., Sister Mary Regis and Sister Mary Jerome, both of Mt. Loretta, Dubuque; Sister Mary Columbia, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. James Jehring, Iowa City; Private Vincent Stence, Ft. Des Moines; Helen Stence, R.N., Des Moines, and Mrs. Wm. Fosselmann, Dubuque.
