GARNAVILLO: Funeral services for Herman Berns Jr., 60, were held Monday morning at 9:00 from St. Joseph's church with Rev. H. Scharphoff officiating in the presence of a large assembly of friends and neighbors of the deceased. Interment took place in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mr. Berns passed away at his farm home north of town, last Thursday evening after a lingering illness.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph's church, a delegation of which acted as a honorary escort at the funeral services.
Surviving are his widow Anna, and the following children: Sylvester of Garnavillo, Sister M. Marcellus of Sacred Heart hospital at Le Mars, Mrs. Mary Koopman of Garnavillo, Isabelle, Cyril, Rachael, Teresa, Anna and Eunice at home. A son Benedict age 04, preceded him in death as also did his mother who passed away in December of last year. He is also survived by his aged father, Herman Berns Sr., two brothers, William of near Guttenberg, Ben of National, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Schoulte, and Mrs. Veronica Hoeger both of Garnavillo.
