Military funeral services were held for David J. Hamlett, 78, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 1974 at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Alfred Kaupins officiating.
David, son of Freeling and Martha Mullenix Hamlett was born October 4, 1895 on a farm near Unionville, Missouri. He was educated in rural schools and was a veteran of World War I.
He was married June 25, 1924, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point to Augusta Rosemary Kleinlein. He was a farmer around Strawberry Point most of his life.
After the passing of his wife in 1951 he resided at Elkader until 1970 when he entered the Veterans Home at Knoxville, Iowa. He entered the Veterans Home at Des Moines June 18 and passed away there July 30.
Surviving are his son, Marvin, Strawberry Point, two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Norma) Russell of Bronxville, New York, and Mrs. Gary (JoAnn) Miller of Denver, Colorado; nine grandchildren and 2 sisters, Mrs. Blanche Baldridge of Rockwell City and Mrs. Gladys Kennally of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, Maurice his parents, three brothers, Earl, Vincent, and Henry, and a sister, Berneys.
Burial was at Strawberry Point cemetery with the Feeney Funeral Home in charge.
