Funeral services for Rufus R. Welch were held at the Congregational church, Saturday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Glenn S. Hartong, pastor of the local Methodist church. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
As the second eldest son of John H. and Rachael Nichols Welch, he was born on a farm near Volga, April 08, 1865 and died Wednesday evening at the Mercy hospital in Oelwein where he had been for the past two weeks.
Mr. Welch was buttermaker in various creameries in Iowa and he owned and operated a creamery at Reinbeck. For the last six years he has made his home here. He was married to Miss Jennie F. Kingsley of Strawberry Point at Manchester by the Rev. Amsden on May 13, 1890. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary with a large circle of relatives and friends.
Surviving are the wife and four children; Wayne A. of Cedar Rapids; Harry K. of Spring Valley, Ill.; Mrs. Morris Modlin of Eldora; and Mrs. Russell Bowen of Reinbeck; also nine grandchildren and three brothers and one sister: John M. Welch of Arlington; Fred A. Welch of Des Moines; Rev. Arthur Welch of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Mrs. H. T. Hutchison of Arlington.
