Clayton County Register, 28 May 1941.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon, at 1:30 at the late home and at 2:00 at the Frieden's Evangelical church with burial in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.

The deceased, Mrs. Lena Meyer, daughter of Henry Lemka and his wife, Anna nee Pinno, was born October 02nd, 1868, in Cox Creek township, Clayton county, Iowa and died at her Elkader home May 20th, 1941 at the age of seventy-two years, seven months and eighteen days.

Mrs. Meyer spent her entire life in this community. Reared on the farm in Cox Creek township, she attended the rural school of that district. On April 05th, 1892, at Elkader, she was united in marriage to George Meyer. After their marriage they resided on their farm in Read township from 1892 to 1909.

After the death of Mr. Meyer on May 15th, 1909, Mrs. Meyer and her children moved to Elkader in the fall of that year. Three children were born to the above union and all survive their mother in death. They are: Mrs. Mabel Lau of Strawberry Point, Harry L. of Elkader and Alice of Elkader, who made her home with her mother.

The deceased was of unassuming and quiet disposition but performing the work allotted to her well. Those close to her noticed that during the past year her heath was not the best. For the last three weeks she became seriously ill and on May 12th she underwent an operation at Dubuque. She was brought back to her home last Saturday that she might enjoy the peace that comes from being among familiar surroundings and with your loved ones.

Mrs. Meyer was a faithful member of the Evangelical church and its Frauen-Verein, and also a member of the Royal Neighbors.

The deceased leaves to mourn her departure, besides the aforenamed children, two brothers and one sister; William Lemka of Luverne, Minnesota Mrs. Minnie Eberhart and Louis Lemka, both of Elkader; two grandchildren, Jo Ann and Georgia Jean Meyer.

Pallbearers were: Gus Graf, Alf. Schneider, E. Bandow, Art Hockhaus, W. C. Dittmer, and L. Ehrhardt
