Duff, William 1856 - 1941

Mr. William Duff was born on February 04, 1856 in Pittsburg, Penn., the son of Robert and Isabella Duff. In August 1858 the family moved to a farm four miles northwest of Volga, Iowa.

In 1886 Mr. Duff was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hayes. They established their home on a farm close by where they lived for three years. Their more permanent home was on another farm in the vicinity where they lived for 36 years. Three years ago they moved to the village for the remaining years of life.

After a brief illness Mr. Duff passed away at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 24 days. Besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Louie Weber remains. Another daughter preceded her father in death. There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, beside two sisters; Mrs. Sarah Roys of Volga and Mrs. Celia McKeen of Coleridge, Neb., and one brother, Tom Duff of Volga, Iowa. Besides these there are many other relatives and a great many friends in this community who united with the family in this hour with expressions of sympathy.

Funeral services were held in the Volga Presbyterian church on Wednesday, May 01, 1941, in charge of Rev. Russell Nelson, pastor, assisted by the Rev. D. V. Butler, pastor of the Volga Methodist church. Mrs. Earl Redmond sang the solo; "Nearer Still Nearer," and Mrs. Robert Duff and Mrs. Redmond sang the duet, "Good Night and Good Morning." Burial was made in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Allen Longmuir, Oaklin Probert, Perry Medberry, George Thompson, Robert and Albert Duff.

Honorary pallbearers were: Fred Ensign, John Probert, William Ewing and Ben Roys.
