STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services for John W. Hesner were held at the home Tuesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Glenn S. Hartong, pastor of the local Methodist church. The hymns were sung by Mrs. Bert W. Talcott, Mrs. Jennie Howard and Miss Carrie Slagle, with Mrs. Robt. Leachman playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were: George E. Dunfrund, Rufus C. Norris, Jack J. Matthews, Eugene H. Fitzgibbons, Miner F. Harwood and William Rieniets. Honorary pallbearers were: Byron W. Newbury, John R. Alderson, F. H. Hamlett, W. G. Smith and Alfred Osterman. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

As a son of John and Barbara Heyer Hesner, he was born on a farm about two miles northwest of Edgewood October 15, 1856 and died at his home Saturday evening, after a lingering illness. His entire life had been spent in and around here. On November 27, 1877, he was married to Elizabeth Barr of Manchester. To this union two daughters were born. The home was made on farms until 1900 when they retired and moved in town. During Mr. Hesner's life on the farm, besides farming he served as trustee, school board member and president of the board and rural supervisor. Mr. Hesner was president of the Franklin Hotel and president of the First National Bank and when the two banks merged in 1930, for a number of years he was president of the Board of Directors. Mr. and Mrs. Hesner were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on November 27, 1927. In infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith, but when coming to town attended the Methodist church. He was the last of a family of seven children. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Laura) Jessen of Dundee and Mrs. William H. (Elsie) Arnold of Strawberry Point and one granddaughter, Mrs. William G. (Charmion) Glass of Dundee and one great-granddaughter, Beverly Ann Glass.
