ELKPORT: Henry Hafner was born in Bavaria, Germany, June 09, 1863, and baptized at an early age. He came to America with his parents at the age of nine, making his home in Dubuque. On May 03, 1887, he was married to Anna Jansen, by Rev. Lutz, pastor of the St. John's church and to this union two children were born.
On March 09, 1900, they moved to Elkport to spend the remainder of his life. On May 03, 1937, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Hafner underwent two very serious operations in the last year, but seemed to recover from both, until Tuesday, April 01, when he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack at the age of 77 years, nine months and 22 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. One older sister, Mrs. Lena Schmidt of Seattle, Wash., is still living.
He leaves to mourn his death his invalid wife, two children, a daughter Lottie (Mrs. C. P. Krieg) and a son, Robert, both of Elkport and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial was made in Mt. Harmony cemetery with the following casketbearers: Chas. Waterman, Lawrence Waterman, Geo. Gifford, Harlan Thurn, Arthur Willman and Lawrence Krieg.
Funeral services were held at the Elkport Lutheran church on Thursday, at 1:30 p.m.
