Mrs. Alvenia Anna Marie Sheppard, formerly of Wagner township, died March 30, at 9:30 p.m. at the county home after a lingering illness, which began over 20 years ago following an operation for brain tumor.
The deceased, a daughter of Henry and Caroline (Madaus) Kamous, was born March 27, 1892, in Grebs, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany. In 1894, together with her parents, she came to America and settled, at first, in Postville. Later she lived in Luana and Wagner township. For the last eight years she had been a resident of the county home.
June 14, 1911, at Luana, she was united in marriage with Alva Sheppard and to this union three children were born, namely, Mrs. Irene Hofer, Luana; Mrs. Cora Pesney, Lime Springs, and Mrs. Florence Clynch, Elma, who, together with the husband, survive.
The deceased is also survived by her father, one sister, Mrs. Anna Walter of Edgewood; one brother, Henry Kamous, Jr., West Union, and two grandchildren.
Through the many years of her illness Mrs. Sheppard was a patient sufferer. During the last five years of her life she was served, spiritually by the Rev. E. L. Stuempfig of this place.
Funeral services were held last Wednesday and burial was made in the Grand Meadow cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Stuempfig officiating. Casketbearers were six nephews.
