MCGREGOR: Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Clarence H. Cotant of Marquette, who died at the McGregor hospital March 09th, 1941 after several weeks of illness. The funeral was held at the home, Rev. G. W. McMichael officiating and burial was made in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Mr. Cotant was born February 16, 1866 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cotant at New Hampton, Iowa. He entered the employment of the Milwaukee Railroad at the age of 16 and remained with the company until his retirement at the age of 70 years. For many years he was conductor on the main line of the I. and D. Division and for several years before his retiement was on the Elkader run.
On August 29, 1892, he was married to Charity M. Bromley of McGregor and to them were born three children: Mrs. Cloyd Ferris of Marquette; Mack B. of Los Angeles, California; and Martin E. of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was a member of Bezer Lodge A.F. & A.M. of McGregor and the Order of Railway Conductors. He was also a member of the Quaker Church.
Besides his widow and three children he is survived by five grandchildren, two sisters Mrs. L. B. Gardner and Mrs. Will Aaron and one brother, W. E. Cotant, all of Los Angeles, Calif.
