VOLGA: Funeral services were held last Wednesday in the Volga Presbyterian church, the Rev. Russell Nelson, officiating, for William E. Ewing. Burial was made in the Hillcrest cemetery. Casket-bearers were: Edwin Berse, Louis Preuss, Frank Phillips, Howard Taylor, Howard Borden and R. D. White.
William E. Ewing, 69 years and a few months old, died at the Iowa City hospital on Feb. 16, 1941. He was born on March 20, 1871, near Volga City, the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ewing.
On Oct. 18, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Jellings. Three sons were born to this marriage. His entire life has been spent in this community. For many years he was in the butcher business in Volga.
One son preceded his father in death. Those remaining are his wife; two sons: Clarence of Dubuque and Henry of Buena Vista, also seven grandchildren. He has eight sisters remaining, three having preceded him in death. He also leaves one uncle, several nieces and nephews beside many friends in this community.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Edna De LaHunt, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Jennie Emblem, Mr. and Mrs. George Linder, Louis Sumock, Mr. and Mrs. George Jellings, Harry Jellings, James Jellings, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jellings, all of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jellings, Raymond Jellings, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jellings, all of Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jellings and Lee Jellings, Randalia; Geo. Speed, Mrs. Hattie Truesdale, Harry Speed; Mrs. Bessie Nus, Ray Mitchell, all of Arlington; and Mrs. Ed Gernand, Wadena.
