Clayton County Register, 01 Jan. 1940. Luana column.
Relatives and neighbors were greatly shocked when they learned, early Monday morning, that Mrs. Wm. Landt, Sr., had died at the age of 81 years. Although not very well for years, she seemed in her usual health and greatly enjoyed the caroling of the league members, Sunday evening, for the elderly people. She, personally, thanked them for the songs.
As Wilhelmina Johanna Bugenhagen, she was born in Spantekow, Germany, Nov. 05, 1859. Following her marriage to William Landt they came to America locating on a farm near Garnavillo. Since then they lived on various farms in this and Allamakee county. Their last farm home was on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. John H. Krambeer, west of Luana, from which they retired in 1921, moving to Luana where they erected a nice modern home.
Surviving are seven children: William, Rudolph and Mrs. Otto Schuldt of near Medford, Minn., Mrs. E. Reiners of West Union, Mrs. John H. Krambeer, Emma and Alma at Luana; also three brothers, Wm. Bugenhagen, Luana; Hy., of Cresco, and Rudolph of Postville. A sister, Mrs. Eberling of Cresco and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral was held Thursday forenoon, Dec. 26th, from St. John's Lutheran church, the Rev. Paul Adix officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery near by.
