Funeral services for William Laird, 81, were held at the Oelke funeral home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Sept 30. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.
Mr. Laird died at his home east of Elkader on Monday, Sept. 27. He had been in ill health for the past eight months.
William Laird was born in Vanwert county, Ohio, on July 27, 1867, the son of William and Margaret Stover Laird. He came to Elkader in 1902 and settled in Pony Hollow where he spent his remaining years.
Mr. Laird spent his early years railroading; in later years he devoted his time to farming.
On April 29, 1915, he was married to Miss Margaret Shaw at Elkader.
He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Ella Laird Trueblood of Anderson, Ind., and a number of nieces and nephews living in Iowa and Indiana.
Pallbearers were: Gayle Maggert, Robert Meyer, Raymond Meyer, Claude Maggert, Leroy Meyer, and Dewaine Stendel.
