Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Finley, 75, were held from the Oelke funeral home to St. Joseph church at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Oct. 11. The Rev. Father B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in the cemetery at Volga City. The Rev. Father D. T. Noonan officiated at the grave.
Mrs. Finley died at her home in Elkader on Friday, Oct. 08, of a heart condition following a two days' illness.
Emma Roach was born in highland township, Clayton county, on March 06, 1874, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Roach. She received her education in the schools near her home. She was married to William Finley at Elkader on July 14, 1896. He preceded her in death in August, 1946. They started housekeeping on the old Finley homestead in Highland township, living there until October, 1937, when they retired and moved to Elkader, which has been their home since that time.
Mrs. Finley was a member of St. Joseph church in Elkader and the Women's Guild of that church.
She is survived by one son and three daughters, Ed J. Finley on the home farm in Highland township, Mrs. E. W. (Mary) Thompson, Fayette, Mrs. A. L. (Frances) Benson, Elkader, and Mrs. Victor (Florence) Kalb, Oelwein; one brother, John Roach, Omaha, Nebr., and two sisters, Sister Mary Stanislaus, Dubuque, and Sister Mary Leo, Whittemore; also three grandchildren, Jane Ann and Pete Kalb, Oelwein and Patrick Finley, Volga.
Pallbearers were: Jim Meyers, John Follon, Joe Cunningham, Millard Olson, Fred Orr, and Mike Scully.
