John A. Parsons third son of the late Jerome and Ann Parsons was born in Blairsville, Pa., April 16, 1854, and died at his home in Volga, Aug. 15, 1948, at the age of 94 years, three months and 29 days.
While still a young man, he came to Iowa, working first with a crew of men who were making a preliminary survey for the Chicago, Milwaukee railroad out of Marion, across Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas.
Returning to Volga in 1882, he permanently made his residence here, purchased an interest in the Volga creamery and became its first operator. Seven years later he entered the employ of the Adams-White company where he was employed for almost 50 years. He retired from business in 1936.
In 1884, he married Mattie M. Stacy of Volga. Three children were born, two daughters and one son. The infant son and his wife have preceded him in death.
Lulu and Mabel Parsons, daughters, and several nieces and nephews survive.
Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. Fa___ in charge. Leo H. Grether provided appropriate piano music. Mrs. F. P. Gerna_d and Mrs. _. _. Brandt were in charge of the floral offerings.
Casket bearers were: D. J. __am, R. E. Cand__, F. P. Gernand, W. M. Hoskyn, A. R. Kunzman, and H. O. Probert. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
