Thomas Kelly, one of the oldest section foremen on the road, was instantly killed by the Great Western at Lamont Sunday morning. He was sitting on the track when struck by a train and ground to pieces.

It is said the man [was] in an intoxicated condition when the accident occurred. Mr. Kelly was widely known among the railroad men in the northeastern part of the state.

Thomas Kelly, one of the oldest men on the Great Western road was instantly killed at Lamont Sunday. It is said he was literally ground to pieces. We have been unable to obtain any particulars of the accident.

The remains were brought to this place and funeral services were held from St. Mary's Catholic church Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Rowe The remains were interred in the cemetery east of town.

Mr. Kelly is said to be widely known among the railroad men in Northeast Iowa.

Note: Burial is in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Strawberry Point. His gravestone gives the following dates: Aug 14, 1864 - May 24, 1903.
