Funeral services were held for Charles Ihde July 20 at 1 p.m. at the home of his grandson, Karl H. Glawe, and at 2 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Clayton Center. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated.
Mr. Ihde, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Ihde, was born Jan. 11, 1862, in Read township. He was baptized Carl. On April 09, 1876, he was confirmed in the Zion church by the late Rev. F. W. Seifert.
He died July 17, 1948, at 1:15 p.m. at the home of his grandson, Karl H. Glawe, in Boardman township. He suffered a heart attack and was ill two days. He was 86 years, six months and six days old.
On Oct. 04, 1885, he was married to Bertha Meklenburg at Zion church in Clayton Center. To this union four children were born, Ella, Mrs. Charles J. Glawe, Emma, Mrs. Henry Harnack, Anna, and Arthur. All of them, together with his wife, preceded him in death.
Surviving are six Grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Henry, William, and Herman, one half-brother, John Ihde, and one half-sister, Minnie Ihde Huckstadt. Surviving are two half-brothers, August and Fred Ihde, and one half-sister, Mrs. Fred Hoffman Sr. He also had two sisters, Emma and Anna Ihde.
Charles Ihde was educated in a rural school and served as a rural school director for a number of years. His occupation was that of farmer.
Mr. Ihde was one of the oldest members of the community in which he spent his entire life. He drove a team for a cream route and farmed at the same time, after his work on the route. Later he was a carpenter and worker in stone and cement.
Pall bearers were Karl H. Glawe, Harold Ihde, Lester Lembke, Eldo S. Johnson, Clarence Hoffman, and Eldo Joffman.
