Clayton County Register, 08 July 1948.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Kruse, 67, were held Sunday, July 04, 1948 at the Farmersburg opera house. The Rev. Robert D. Butler officiated and burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.

Augusta Behrens Kruse was born on a farm in Highland township, August 20, 1880. Her entire life was spent in Clayton county. She was married to Henry F. Kruse at Clayton Center, December 03, 1901 and settled in Farmersburg. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 526, Royal Neighbor Lodge of America, Farmersburg Study Club and other civic enterprises.

Mrs. Kruse had been in failing health for some time and on April 10 she underwent an operation in Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from which she never recovered.

Appropriate piano selections at the funeral were furnished by Mrs. Ella Mathews and vocal solos were by Mrs. Jean Frederick of Stanley, Iowa, a close friend of the family.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Esther in 1907.

Surviving besides her husband are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kruse and sons Bob and Jon of Glendale, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kruse and son Jeff of Mitchell, S.Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Teale Girard and Barbara Jean and Tommy, and Margaret, Marilyn and Harry of Chicago, Ill., and Joyce R. N., of Farmersburg.

Pallbearers were: Carl Gall, Hale Corlett, Lester Oelke, William Reardon, Leigh Mathews, Hugo Oelke, Marvin Klinkenberg and Herbert Thorsen.

Those in charge of flowers were Margaret Thorsen, Thelma Mathews and Olga Mahnke.

An appropriate poem written by her daughter Marilyn in 1945 was used in the sermon.

Never wishing
Never wanting
Always satisfied with less.

Always giving
Never taking
Forever giving of life's best.

That's my mother's cherished

nature
Thru the years it grew and grew
I know that when we have to lose

her
She'll be coming up to you.
