Funeral services for John G. Walters were held in St. John's church at Garber Wednesday afternoon, June 09, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader officiated. Burial was in the Hansel cemetery.
Mr. Walters died at Finley hospital in Dubuque June 06, following several months' illness. He had reached the age of 84 years, six months and 14 days.
John Gordon Walters was born near Garber in Mallory township, Clayton county, on Nov. 22, 1863, the son of Andrew Jackson and Malinda Cooper Walters. He spent his entire life farming in the Garber vicinity. On July 08, 1897, he was married to Eva Hyde.
He is survived by 12 children: Earl of Chicago, Ill.; Marie Walters of Clinton; August of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Fred Schrader, Guttenberg; Gordon, Clifford, and Donald of Stockton, Calif.; Garland of Cedar Rapids; Raymond of Waterloo; Lowell of Fort Knox, Ky.; Russell of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Chas. Legeman of Long Beach, Calif, Also one sister, Mrs. Martha Bowman, Guttenberg, and four grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were the following sisters and brothers: Henrietta McSperrin, Isaac Walters, Lucetta Schweikert, Alexander and James Walters.
Pallbearers were Edmond Feidt, Henry Schnepf, Art Jennings, Art Willman, Elmer Morley, and Leonard Moser.
