Funeral services for Mrs. Kathrina Maehl, 83, were held Saturday, May 29, from the Witt funeral home to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
Mrs. Maehl was born January 14, 1865, in Farmersburg township, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Wilker. She received her education in the rural school of her community and was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center, and had held various offices in the Ladies' Aid of that church. She died at her farm home in Read township, May 27, after an illness of three weeks.
Jan. 10, 1883, she was married to John C. Maehl who preceded her in death in 1933. Their entire life was spent farming in the community which has since been her home. Eight children were born to this union: Mrs. Louise Jungblut, Elkader, Mrs. Emma Dahl, Arlington, Minn., Mrs. Alma Heiden, Hartford, S.Dak., Mrs. Elfrieda Kluth, Cedar Rapids, John H. Maehl and Mrs. Elsa Koehn, St. Olaf, Mrs. Laura Boege, Edgewood, and a son Elmer, deceased.
Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Anna Jutting, George, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Lenth, Monona, Mrs. Ida Polkow and Mrs. Bertha Breitsprecher, Elkader; two brothers, Fred Wilker, St. Olaf, and John Wilker, Elkader; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were : Harvey Gottschalk, Alan Engetlhardt, Willis Hoth, Delbert Lamker, Gilbert Robinson and Herbert Mueller.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Emma Dahl, Arlington, Minn. Mrs. Alma Heiden and son Chester, Hartford, S.Dak., Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Kluth, Cedar Rapids.
