Funeral services for George W. Laird were held Thursday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon from the Oelke funeral home. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Mr. Laird had been in poor health for the past year. He was taken to the university hospital at Iowa City and after two weeks returned to Elkader where he died Tuesday May 11, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 11 days.

George W. Laird was born in Van Wert county, Ohio, Dec. 30, 1872. He spent most of his life as a farm laborer. He came to Clayton county in 1903.

In 1912 he was united in marriage to Alletta Zimmerman. She preceded him in death in 1935 and a daughter Mary at the age of 12 years. He also has one adopted son, Donald, and three step-children. Other survivors are a brother, William Laird of Elkader, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Trueblood of Anderson, Ind.

Pallbearers were: Dewain Stendel, Claud Maggart, Robert Meyers, Vernon Shaw, Gayle Maggart and Raymond Meyers.
