Funeral services for John Sturm, 80, were held from the Witt funeral chapel Monday afternoon, May 17, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Mr. Sturm died at the University hospital in Iowa City Thursday, May 13, following a brief illness.

John Ernest Sturm was born in Germany July 06, 1867, the son of George and Barbara Sturm. He came with his parents to America in 1869. They settled in Clayton county, which has since been his home. Upon reaching manhood he took up the carpenter's trade and has worked in and near Elkader for many years.

He was married to Sophia Homan in 1891 and the couple made their home in Cox Creek township.

He is survived by three children, Clarence and Mrs. Marie Sturm Meyers, both of Elkader, and Mrs. Mollie Sturm Beck of Littleport; a brother, Charles, of Guttenberg, and a sister, Mrs. Kate Sturm Schellschmidt, Rockford, Ill.; also eight grandchildren and six great--grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son Johnnie.

Pallbearers were: George Behn, Henry Behn, Miles Scott, Gerald Stahl, Alfred Baars, and Ben Casey.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Katie Schellschmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Cunningham, Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Realto Beck and son, Geneseo, Ill.; Mrs. Hulda Osborne, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Wood, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Vierow, Dundee; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vierow, Randalia; Mrs. Emma Homan, Waukon; Mrs. Carl Pausch and Mrs. Rance Dundee, Postville; Charles Sturm, Guttenberg; and Charles Heitkamp, Waverly.
