Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Malary, 83, lifelong resident of Clayton county, were held at St. Joseph Catholic church Saturday morning, May 15, at 10 o'clock, the Rev. Father B. H. Skahill officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.
Mrs. Malary died Wednesday, May 12, at the home of her sister, Miss Bridget Donohoe, following a long illness. Death was due to the infirmities of old age.
Mary Ann Donohoe was born in Read township on October 24, 1864, the daughter of Michael and Catherine Galagher Donohoe. She received her education in the rural schools near her home. On April 06, 1885, at St. Joseph church, Elkader, she was united in marriage to John Malary. She spent her entire life in Read and Boardman townships. Her husband preceded her in death in 1937.
She was a member of St. Joseph church and St. Joseph's Guild.
She is survived by nine children, Patrick James, Mrs. Frank (Stella) Farrell, and Sister Mary Alphonsus of the Presentation convent, all of Elkader; Mrs. Jess (Mame) Crane, Mrs. Frank (Veronica) Quinlan, both of Cedar Rapids; John T. Malary, Clear Lake; Mrs. Emery (Margaret) Nuss, Manchester; Mrs. McKinley (Martha) Gage, Wadena; Mrs. G. W. (Elizabeth) Mackley, Long Beach, Calif. Also one sister, Miss Bridget Donohoe, Elkader, with whom she made her home; 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were three children: Michaael F., who died in 1941, Mrs. Anna C. Crane, in 1944, and a daughter Gertrude, who died at the age of eight years; two brothers, James and Tom and a sister, Anna.
Pallbearers were six grandsons: Raymond, Gerald and Cletus Crane, Robert and Richard Smith and James Farrell.
