Funeral services for Joseph McDowell of near Mederville were held at 1 o'clock this afternoon at the Witt funeral home, the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial will be Friday at Colesburg.
Mr. McDowell was found dead Sunday in the house on the Ehrhardt farm, where he had lived alone; by Harold Ehrhardt and R. Bucholz. It is believed he died Thursday, Feb. 26. Neighbors last saw him alive Wednesday.

Funeral services for Joseph W. McDowell, 71, who died of a heart attack at his home in Cox Creek township, February 26, 1948, were held from the Witt Funeral chapel Thursday afternoon, March 04, at one o'clock. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery, Colesburg, Iowa.
Joseph William McDowell, the son of William and Ellen McDowell was born May 16, 1876 in Clayton County, Iowa. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.
He was married to Ethel Marie Brown at Elkport, Iowa, on December 16, 1921.
Several children preceded their father in death. The surviving children are: Mrs. James (Martha) Fox Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla; Mrs. Leroy (Pearl) Bell, Russel, Iowa; Dorothy of Edgewood; Romona of Dubuque, and Edgar of Harpers Ferry. Also surviving are the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. George (Nona) Spencer, Waterloo; Mrs. Harry (Blanch) Carrol, Edgewood; Mrs. Gus (Elizabeth) Moser, Greeley; Delbert of Greeley, and Grant McDowell, Elkader, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Thomas Kenneally, Stephen Leonard, Harold Ehrhardt, Harley Gentz, Leland Lange and Fred Kahrs.
