The first transcription I'm posting is not an obit, but this retirement notice published just a few months prior to his death. It gives much more biographical information than is in his obit which I've also posted.
Announces Retirement from Practice
After 61 years of medical practice in and around the community of Garnavillo, Dr. J.W. Hudek plans on closing his office and moving to Waupaca, Wisconsin, to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Robert 'Alice' Bergman.Dr. Hudek was born in 1881 at Highland, Wisconsin and lived there until he completed his high school education. He then began his medical career by enrolling at the Iowa Medical School at Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from there in 1905, then spent a year of medical practice at Spillville before coming to Garnavillo to take over the practice of Dr. Schmidt who was moving to Postville.
He married Miss Cora Hudon [sic Hudson] of Garnavillo in 1908 and in 1909 bought the property where they lived for 57 years. Mrs. Hudek passed away May 6 of this year.
Dr. Hudek served the community above and beyond the call of his profession by serving as a member of the school board, town council, and was president of the old Farmers State Bank. He is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church.
He traveled many thousands of miles by horse and buggy, boat and car. He owned two different teams and rented many horses before he bought his first car in 1912. It was a four cylinder Maxwell.
In 1945 he delivered 4 babies, all boys, within 16 hours, al in different locations. The first was in Clayton township, the second at Froelich, the third at Monona and the fourth at Garnavillo.
1956 was the anniversary of 50 years of service by Dr. Hudek to the people of Garnavillo and surrounding communities. He was honored by a banquet and a "This is Your Life" program. He was also honored that year by the State Medical Society and given a Life membership in the society based on 50 years of medical practice and 30 years membership.
It was with great pleasure that the people honored him that day but with regret ... it's say Good-Bye and God Bless You.
