Funeral services for Phillip Hansel, 78, of Edgewood, Ia., were held from the Oelke Funeral home here at 1:15 on Sunday afternoon November 10 to St. John's Lutheran church Garber at 2 p.m. The Rev. S. E. Birkner officiating. Burial was in Mount Harmony cemetery, Garber, Ia.
Mr. Hansel died in Mercy hospital, Oelwein, Ia., at 7 p.m. on November 07, 1946 following a four days illness.
Phillip Elsworth Hansel was born near Garber, Ia., on February 22, 1868, the son of Phillip and Elaine Hansel. His early life was spent on the home place. He received his education in the rural schools of the community.
On December 25, 1893 he was united in marriage to Lillian Dinges. They were the parents of Thirteen children. The couple lived in Osterdock, Millville, Littleport and Edgewood. Mr. Hansel spent most of his life farming, he retired a number of years ago. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church, Garber, Ia.
He is survived by his wife, five daughters and seven sons: Mrs. Ethel Penhollow, Guttenberg; Mrs. Pearl Belden, Volga; Mrs. Eva Boyington, Monona; Mrs. Jessie Funk, Garber; Josephine Hansel, at home: Elmer Hansel, Dunnell, Minn.; Ralph Hansel, Volga; Adam Hansel, Irvin Hansel and Lawrence Hansel, all of Marion, Ia.; Bert Hansel, Scales Mound, Ill.; Emery Hansel, Fort Sheridan, Ill.; one son Roy of Elkport, died in 1932.
He is also survived by three brothers, Albert Hansel, Greeley; Edward Hansel, Osterdock; Marshal Hansel, Greeley, Iowa; three sisters, Ella, Voda and Arnita. There are 21 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Charles Hildebrandt, Donald Kraus, Fran Wiley, August Rodas, Dan Wiley and Fred Rodas.
