Charles T. Gerndt died Friday in the home only two blocks from the one in which he was born 87 years ago. His parents, immigrants from Germany, were among McGregor's first settlers. In his younger years, Mr. Gerndt operated a cigar store and later was a contractor.
He was married to Minnie Geske in 1887, and 10 of their 11 children are still living. The seven daughters are: Mrs. W. B. Allard, Miss Clara Gerndt, Mrs. Norman Scrogum, Mrs. W. E. Wirklerand, Mrs. L. J. Linderman, all of McGregor; Mrs. Esten Williams, Hanover, Ill; and Mrs. A. H. Grossheim of Waukon; and three sons, Harry, Theodore and Fred Gerndt, all of McGregor. Funeral services were held at the Gerndt home Sunday afternoon. Burial was the Pleasant Grove cemetery.
