Mrs. Katherine Christina Schroeder, 88, died Sunday morning in the home of her son, LeRoy Schroeder, in Garnavillo. Funeral services were held in Garnavillo Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church with the W. C. Dickman funeral home in charge, and burial was in the Garnavillo Lutheran cemetery. The following were pall bearers: Merle Marting, Irwin Backes, Mike Miller, Fred Ihlenfeldt, Amos Hagensick and Milton Hagensick.
Mrs. Schroeder, wife of the late Rudolph Henry Schroeder of Garnavillo, was an early resident of Clayton county. She came here in 1864, when she was seen years old, with her mother, Margaret Kahn, and they made their home at Ceres until Mrs. Schroeder was married in 1877.
She was preceded in death by her husband and four children, Alma, Arthur, Rudolph and Ernest. She was also preceded in death by these step-brothers and step-sisters: William, John, Henry, George, Christ, Gus, Fred, Louis, Elizabeth, Mary and Martha. She is survived by her son LeRoy, her daughter Verni, of Bluffton, Ind., and her step-sister, Mrs. Bertha Gray of Monona.
Mrs. Schroeder lived in Elkader for 38 years following the death of her husband in 1905, and two years ago she moved back to Garnavillo to make her home with her son LeRoy.
