ELKPORT: William H. Meyer died at St. Joseph's sanatarium in Dubuque Monday morning, September 23, after a lingering illness, the immediate cause of his death being a sudden heart attack. He reached the age of 76 years, two months and 25 days.
He was born June 28, 1870 at Wonowoc, Wis., where he was baptized in infancy and later confirmed at Bloomer. In 1905 he came to Clayton County, Iowa, and settled at Elkport where he lived ever since, and where he was united in marriage to Louise Anna Hoffman June 24, 1905. He was a carpenter by trade. For a number of years he was a member of the church council of Immanuel Lutheran church at Elkport.
He is survived by his widow and his only daughter, Viola Meyer, of Dubuque, his sisters, Mrs. Lena Happal, Chisholm, Minn.; Mrs. Hulda Schimmel and Mrs. Clara Turner, Bloomer, Wis.; Mrs. Anna Johnston, Park Falls, Wis.; and Mrs. Ella Thorson, Detroit, Mich. His parents, four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 26, at Immanuel Lutheran church, Elkport, and were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. H. Mueller. A male trio, composed of Marvin and LaVern Kuehl and Lowell Thein, accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Mueller, furnished the music.
Pallbearers were George Gifford, Joe Curran, C. P. Krieg, Ray Finnegan, Willis Lewin and L. L. Waterman. Burial was made in Mt. Harmony cemetery. Lou Zearley was in charge of arrangements.
Among those present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoffman and Fred Hoffman Jr., Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Hoffman and Mrs. Bertha Ihde, Garnavillo; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoffman and Jeanne, and Mr. and Mrs. John Gottschalk, St. Olaf; Mr. and Mrs. George Hoffman, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rogge and Mrs. Albert Rogge, Bloomer, Wis.
