Burial services were held Saturday at Sacred Heart cemetery for William Finley, 72, who died Wednesday at his home in Elkader after a lingering illness. The Rev. D. T. Noonan officiated at the graveside.
For a number of years, Mr. Finley and his family resided on his farm north of Volga. The past few years, they have lived in Elkader.

Funeral services for William Finley, 72, were held at St. Joseph's church in Elkader at 9:30, Saturday morning, Aug. 31. The Rev. Father Casey officiated at the requiem high mass. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Volga City. The Rev. Father D. T. Noonan officiated at the grave.
Mr. Finley died at his home in Elkader about 11 o'clock Wednesday evening following a long illness, 11 years of which he was confined to his bed with arthritis of the spine.
William Finley, the son of Michael and Maria (Fions) Finley, was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland, July 11, 1874. He received his education in the schools of his native land. When 16 years of age he came to America where he assisted his uncle, the late John Finley, in the work on one of the productive farms in Highland township which later became his own.
On July 14, 1896, he was married to Miss Emma Roach of Elkader. The couple went to housekeeping on the old Finley homestead in Highland township where they lived until Oct. 25, 1937, when they retired and moved to Elkader, which has since been their home.
Mr. Finley served as a director of the Farmers State Bank of Volga City for a number of years. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of St. Joseph's church in Elkader.
He is survived by his wife, one son Ed. Finley on the home farm in Highland township, and three daughters, Mrs. A. L. (Frances) Benson, Elkader, Mrs. E. W. (Mary) Thompson, Fayette, and Mrs. Victor (Florence) Kalb, Oelwein, also three grandchildren, Jane Ann and Peter Kalb, Oelwein, and Patrick Finley of Volga.
Pallbearers were: Jim Myers, John Follon, Joe Cunningham, Millard Olson, Fred Orr and Wm. Orr.
People from a distance who attended the funeral were: Clarence Roach, St. Paul; Sister Mary Stanislaus, Dubuque; Sister Mary Leo, Whittemore;
Mae McNeil, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McNeil, all of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson, Arlington; Mrs. Mathilda Kalb and Clair Kalb, Oelwein, and Mr. and Mrs. C. Etteldorf, Monona.
