Clayton County Register, 20 June 1946.
Mrs. Mary Buckman, daughter of Christian and Sophia Possehl, was born May 12, 1868, in Kleinmielling Mecklenburg Schwerin Germany. She was baptized shortly after birth. When she was five years old she came with her parents to America. They came directly to Clayton county, Iowa. Her parents died when she was a young girl, and she grew up in the home of her grandmother. She attended public and religious school, and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Clayton Center by the Rev. Seifert.
March 13, 1893 she was married to Wm. F. Buckman. Four children were born to this union. One daughter died when she was nine days old.
Mrs. Buckman spent her married life on farms in Wagner and Farmersburg township. Mr. Buckman preceded her in death on May 06, 1911. Mrs. Buckman with her two sons moved to their present home about nine years ago.
The deceased suffered a heart attack last fall. Due to the seriousness of her condition she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Landt, so that she might be cared for, by her daughter. When her condition improved this spring she again went back to her home. She seemed to improve but death came suddenly and unexpectedly last Tuesday, June 11 at 10 p.m.
She is survived by her three children: Mrs. Frieda Landt of near Luana; and Arno and Arthur of near Froelich; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 at St. John's Lutheran church, Farmersburg. R. H. Steege, pastor officiated. Burial was in Monona cemetery.
