Clayton County Register, 13 June 1946.
The body of John J. Spielbauer, 41, of North Buena Vista, was found on the railroad tracks of the Milwaukee road not far from the John Deere plant near Dubuque, Saturday. It is believed that he had either fallen from or been struck by a freight train. His death was ascribed to be a severe hemorrhage which occurred when a train had amputated his left leg.
A farmer until he entered the service, Spielbauer was born in North Buena Vista in 1905, and married Miss Marie Schmidt in 1930, who died the same year. He served two years in the Army engineers and on his return to civilian life became a bridge carpenter for the railroad.
Funeral services were held Tuesday. Spielbauer attended the Immaculate Conception church at North Buena Vista.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Spielbauer and his daughter, Miss Velma Spielbauer, both of North Buena Vista; four sisters: Mrs. Arnold (Louise) Hutter, Mrs. Lawrence (Bernice) Hanson, Mrs. Edward (Edvina) Blaser, and Mrs. Peter (Martha) Duehr, all of Dubuque; and one brother, George Spielbauer, Guttenberg.
