ST. OLAF: Funeral services for Ole M. Benson were held from the home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to the Norway Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Theo Thorson, Elmer Kurth, Otto Severson, Ben Fuelling, Lorando Embetson and Thomas Peterson.
Mrs. Orpha Larson and Mrs. Art Knuth had charge of the flowers.
Ole M. Benson, son of Mikkel and Birgit (Erickson) Benson was born March 30, 1864 in Highland township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran church by the Rev. Waldeland.
August 26, 1893 he was married to Helen Helgeson. They made their home in Highland township for about seven years, then they moved to their home about one and a half miles north of the Norway church where he spent the rest of his life.
Six children were born to them, five girls and one boy. Grandpa Benson, as he was affectionately called by his loved ones was a devoted church member, a quiet, unassuming person and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
At the table April 05, 1946, at 5:15 p.m., while eating his evening meal, he died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 82 years and six days.
Survivors are: four daughters, Janet at home, Orietta of Oakland, Calif., Marinda of LaCrosse, Wis., Cora (Mrs. Vern Rugland) of St. Olaf, and one son Perry, on the home farm, three grandchildren, Helen Jean and Carroll Rugland, and Ruth Benson, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on November 18, 1918 and one daughter Mildred on December 29 1914, his parents, two brothers and two sisters, Bjorn, Carrie (Mrs. Nels Nelson, Bjorn and Ingeborg (Mrs. Henry Embretson).
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dumben, Elias Dumben, Waterville, Ia.; Mrs. Jack Snyder, Bellevue, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson, West Union, Iowa.
