Funeral services for Charles (Shorty) Wilson were held from the Oelke funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 1946, and at the Congregational Christian church at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Herbert Kelly officiated. The Lemka-Stendel Post of the American Legion had charge of the military service. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Charles Wilson was born at Mendota, Mo., May 26, 1894. He was the son of William H. and Flora de Mack Wilson.

When a very young boy, first his mother died and a few days later, his father. He came to Elkader in 1907, and it has since been his home.

He enlisted in the army in World War I, April 26, 1917, at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He served as cook of Company E, sixty-second Infantry until honorably discharged at Camp Lee, Va. April 07, 1919, and on the same day he re-enlisted for one year. In April 1920 he returned to Elkader to make his home with the late Mr. and Mrs. James Cameron.

He was married to Martha Cameron, Nov. 22, 1921. They made their home in Elkader, until April, 1933, when they moved to an acreage east of Elkader. This was their home until three weeks ago when they moved to the farm they had purchased from the late Ella Stanton.

Shorty, as he was commonly known to all, was employed by the Iowa State highway commission for the past 19 years.

He died very suddenly at his home at 5 p.m. Feb. 21, having reached the age of 51 years, eight months and 23 days.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife and following children: Mrs. Marietta Harsh, Des Moines; Mrs. Francis Mae Berns, Ames; James Cameron and Barbara Gene Wilson at home. Also three sisters: Mrs. Nora Mason of Novinger, Mo., Mrs. May Harsh, Des Moines, and Mrs. Doris Thompson, San Francisco, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Pallbearers were: Carl Johansen, Sr., E. F. Seifert, Melvin Alderson, Harold Downey, Albert Holden, and Lyle Barthell.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Bud Harsh, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harsh, Mrs. Donald Foss and Donna Gene, all of Des Moines; Mrs. Lydia McCormick, Mrs. Willis Smith, Wm. Smith and Miss Irene Hall, all of Fenton, Mich; Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Swann, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schneider, all of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Frances Berns of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Gleason and Dickie of New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Francis West of St. Olaf; Mr. and Mrs. Ab West of Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Berns, F. H. Berns, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McTaggart, Melvin Anderson, Jeannine and Elaine Berns, Mrs. Averil Duncan, and Elmer Gusta of Strawberry Point; Milo Mood of Marquette; Francis McMullen of McGregor; Mrs. Lowell Meier of Independence.
