Miss Ella Stanton, 69, life long resident of Elkader, died at her home here early Saturday morning, Jan. 12, in the house in which she was born almost 70 years ago. Miss Stanton, who had been ill for several years with a heart ailment, had been confined to her bed for the past several weeks.

Funeral services were held at the Witt funeral chapel at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon with Charity Chapter No. 152, O.E.S. in charge of the service and at the Congregational Christian church in Elkader at 2 p.m. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Ella Syrena Stanton, the daughter of Edwin W. and Mary Elizabeth (Coon) Stanton, was born at Elkader, Iowa, on Aug. 15, 1876. She received her education in the Elkader public school following which she taught in the rural schools of the county and in the primary department of the Edgewood public school. For a number of years she was an assistant in the local post office and in later years she was employed in the office of Dr. E. R. Withell.

She was a 50 year member of Charity Chapter No. 152 O.E.S. and a past worthy matron of that organization. She was also a member of the Service Star Legion and a member of the Congregational Christian church and the Ladies Guild.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. A. N. Anderson of West Union, also three nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Merl.

Pallbearers were: H. M. Wolf, Lyle Barthell, Walter Turner, Louis Lemka, Jr., Milton Klink, George Behn.

Honorary pallbearers were: W. W. Davidson, Wm. Becker, Mike Miller, D. E. Livingood, Jesse Turner, H. H. Diers.

Among those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Palmer, Mrs. Foda Woodmanses, all of Waukon; Mrs. Milo Oldfather, Mrs. Libbie Oldfather, both of Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Anderson, Mrs. Lloyd Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Anderson, all of West Union; Mr. and Mrs. Millard Anderson and son Donald, of Donnan, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Anderson of Fredricksburg; Mr. and Mrs. Fran Nims of Clermont.
