Elkport: Geo. McDonald, 82, lifelong resident of Elkport, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Thein, at Oelwein, early Wednesday evening. The body is at the Oelke Funeral Home at Elkader pending funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for George McDonald, 91, were held from the Oelke funeral home in Elkader at 1:15 on Sunday afternoon and at St. John's church in Garber at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Elkader officiating. Burial was in Mount Harmony cemetery at Garber.
Mr. McDonald died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Thein at Oelwein, Wednesday Jan. 06, 1946. He had been in his usual good health and had just returned from town when he was suddenly stricken.
George McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy McDonald, was born in New York City, March 17, 1854. He came to Clayton county with his parents when he was two years old. The family settled at Elkport which has since been his home. He received his education in the schools of the community, following which he spent several years railroading and later took up farming.
On Nov. 11, 1885 he was married to Miss Ella Schmidt at Elkport. Three children were born to them. One child died in infancy. The two daughters surviving are Mrs. G. M. Thein of Oelwein and Mrs. Henry C. Schnepf of Garber. He is also survived by one step sister, Mrs. Matilda Strube of Garber and one brother-in-law Wm. F. Schmidt of Fond du Lac, Wis. also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Pall bearers were Realto P. Berns, John L. Costigan, Edmund Feidt, Fran Feidt, Delbert Rentschler and Art Willman.
