Military funeral services for Burnell Stoops were held at St. Joseph's church, Elkader, at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Dec. 18. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor B. H. Skahill officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery with the Lemka-Stendel Post of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge.

Mr. Stoops died at Vaughn Veterans hospital at Hines, Ill., on Friday, Dec. 15, 1950, following an eleven months' illness. Death was due to a brain tumor. He had reached the age of 37 years, nine months and 11 days.

Burnell Cecil Stoops was born March 04, 1913 at Elkader, the son of John and Bertha Hulverson Stoops. He received his education in the Elkader public school and Elkader Junior college.

On May 22, 1943 he was united in marriage to Helen Corkery of Elkader. Four children were born to them, namely: John James, age 6; Susan Ella, age 5; Sara Anne, age 3; and Mary Beth, two months.

Mr. Stoops was a Staff Sgt. and served 22 months in the Army as radio operator in World War II. Following the war he was employed as a salesman for the Hawkeye Wholesale.

He was a member of the Lemka-Stendel Post of the American Legion and of St. Joseph's church, Elkader.

Surviving besides his wife and the above mentioned children is a brother, Malcolm C. Stoops, Elkader.

His father preceded in death in 1919 and his mother in 1934 and a sister who died in infancy.

Pallbearers were: Robert Stebor, Irvin Fehlhafer, Edwin Hyde, Clarence Neylan, Lloyd Carpenter and Evert Neal.

Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Lawrence Hulverson, Volga; Marie and Robert Hulverson, St. Olaf; Paul Corkery, Hugh Corkery, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corkery, Mr. and Mrs. James Corkery, all of Chicago, Ill.; Mary Corkery, Phoenix, Ariz.; Ellen Corkery, William Corkery, Erma Corkery, Edna Corkery, Bernadette Corkery, all of Wadena; Harry Corkery, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. John Corkery, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Duffy and family, all of Sumner; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Brinkman and son John, Miss Alice Corkery, Mrs. Grace Ryan, all of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Neylan, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Leander Heck, St. Olaf; Mr. and Mrs. N. Gerner, Clermont; Mrs. V. Bargahn, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Duncan, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Russell, Des Moines; Leo B. Walther, Garnavillo.
