Ernest George Henry Hauschen, son of John Hauschen and his wife Mary, born Kuenzel, was born in Brodtville, Wis., March 29, 1886. When still a child, his parents moved to Clayton, where he grew to manhood.

He attended the Clayton school and later Epworth college in Epworth, Iowa.

Later, he and his brother Victor, took up claims in Dakota where they spent nearly two years. After returning he kept up the barber business, which trade he followed the rest of his life.

June 26, 1912, he was married to Elsa Bahr, which took place in Elkport by the Rev. Foelsch.

To them two sons were born, Julius and Junior. For several years the family made their home in McGregor and later moved to Clayton.

Early last summer he was in an auto accident at Manchester and since that time has been in failing health. He suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday evening, Dec. 05 at Clayton.

He reached the age of 64 years, 8 months, and 6 days.

Those preceding him in death were his son, Junior at the age of ten years, his parents and one brother, Victor.

Surviving are his wife Elsa, his son Julius, and his two brothers, Edward of Clayton and Chris of Aurora, Iowa.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 8 at the Elkport Immanuel Lutheran church at 2 o'clock.

The pastor Rev. W. G. Weber officiated.

Marvin and Luvern Kuehl and Harlan Zittergruen sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me," and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Clefisch at the organ.

The pallbearers were Robert Hafner, Mark Rentschler, Ray Finnegan, Clyde Rentschler, Lawrence Waterman, and Cecil Hansel.

Burial was in the Elkport Lutheran cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives and friends were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hauschen of Aurora; Mr. Edward Hauschen, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Saur, Elkader; Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Wittman, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Wittman and family of Cedar Rapids; Lucia and Amelia Roggman and Mrs. Alvin Kregel of Garnavillo; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Clefisch and family and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frese of Clayton and Wm. Zwieg, Elkader.
